What is OT?

Pediatric occupational therapy helps children develop the necessary skills to perform functional tasks for living fulfilling, independent lives.

Since these skills develop simultaneously, development can be stunted in some areas if there is impairment in another area. Occupational therapists assist children at risk for developmental disabilities or delays and help them with physical, cognitive, social-emotional, and adaptive behavior challenges. Some of the issues dealt with include: decreased self-care skills, difficulties with fine motor skills, pre-writing and handwriting difficulties, and feeding issues.

After evaluating a child’s skills, an OT measures them against the age-appropriate developmental standard. After accessing a child’s needs, a plan of care is developed with developmentally appropriate activities and intervention strategies. These services can help your child meet their life skills potential.
